The Sequel We Didn’t Know We Needed

I Can Only Imagine has been a song that Bart Millard did not expect to mean so much to people when he wrote it. Based on his personal life experience and faith his song has been remade in various ways and sung by several different singers. A country version was produced several years ago, but no matter how it is sung or performed or by whom, the meaning of the song never changes.

Now we get a trailer for the sequel coming in February of 2026. This time Bart Millard is dealing with the fame that has come from I Can Only Imagine and trying to find the balancing act of fame and family and faith. Enter Tim Timmons as a new band member, and the two become instant friends. But what Bart does not know is Tim is struggling with the same issues of fame and family and faith as he is. The two share their common bond and then comes the new hit song for Bart and Tim and the band we now as Mercy Me.

Even If the next big hit from MercyMe is a message to their fans that they are struggling and it is also part prayer as he begins singing to Jesus and asking him for help through his struggles. The song ends with the resolution that even if the hate or sorrow is there it is understood that Jesus will be always be there to life us up. Be glorified to know that it is well with our souls through Jesus Christ. If you have not seen the trailer for I Can Only Imagine 2 you can watch it below.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phillipians 4:7
